Hello! I'm a new player, and was wondering a bit about the game...
Mainly, I was curious about outposts. I noticed player often referred to 8:2 and 6:2. What is the benefits of have an 8:2 outpost, versus a 6:2 one? Also, I'm wondering why outposts seem to be preferred to be close to the main castle. Aren't outposts suppose to be stations for your army? I've found several 8:2 outposts, both wood and stone, but they are relatively far (25 - 35 away), and would rather learn all I can before capturing the outposts. I'm aware of an area where there are many 8:2 outposts, but these are obviously not inhabited be a lot of players, and very far away from my main castle.
Finally, how to I increase my defense units? I have many attack units, but barely any defense units
Some background information:
- I still have the dove protection for 5 more days, even though I'm definitely over level 10 (I'm not sure if it is worth capturing outposts at the risk of my own castle's protection)
- I'm situated in an area where there are many main castles of all different levels
- I was a fool and had decided to start my own alliance, still have no one, but have already invested a lot of resources
Thank you for answering my trivial questions!

Most of the players need good outposts, so the good ones is 8 food. With 8 food you have 8 farms/granaryes that have 100% food base production. And you can build 8 more . (16)Kwerti (US1) said:Hello! I'm a new player, and was wondering a bit about the game...

Those are the best outposts in the game, you can go up to 16k food production per hour as a non ruby player. And +25k as a whale.
Outposts being close to main castle is good. You develop more faster. Transfer tools more faster. Avoid food shortages.
So in the final, try to get near to 3 of them in max 10 to 15 distance. (or like you say 25-35), is not bad too. But you'll need stables level 3 in . To be more faster.
Defense units can be recruited from titles (The Honorable - Sentinel Of KingsGuard and The undaunted - Scout of the KingsGuard / Melee and Range def units) both from glory titles.
Or basic defense units that you can find them on Barracks. Or from Foreign lords / Blood crows individual prizes
To develop more faster, try to get in a good high alliance with lvl 70 players.

8:2 as opposed from 6:2
The 8 foods allow for 2 more resources at 100%, for example, if you have an 8 food and a 6 food and each building at 100% makes 500 food, the 8 food makes 4000 food and the 6 food makes 3000, allowing you to hold about 33% more troops in the super food
Distance
If you have an outpost 800 clicks away and another 5 from you, you will be able to build quicker, and support quicker from the 5 click one as opposed to the 800 which will take a long time to get to.
Type
Most of the more active players prefer food outposts as opposed to wood/stone outposts as you can hold much more troops in them, and in turn hold stronger and bigger armies to loot more with.
Why would you want to make 1k stone per hour when you can loot 30k from another player or 5k from a built up rb in less than an hour?
Defense
You can get more defense by building them

Step one, bottom right hand corner of your screen click that^

Step two, click that^
Step Three click defense to build. The first two on that screen are the preferred ones to build with coin, but for your level, if you are really active, you will likely starve over night. I suggest for your level building archers, then going to stronger forms as you unlock more types.
And for the alliance.... I suggest stopping now, going to an alliance to build and learn then when you reach level 70 and have some friends, considering starting one again. I promise you whatever you have donated during these two days will be a breeze to donate when you reach level 70. Gets awfully lonely building up one by yourself.
Also, the outposts may be far, but you can move. First time is free, after that 5k rubies, then 20k... Then idk...
Here is how:

First things first, go to the kings Market^ (Bottom right hand corner of your screen)

Next, click the "Other" tab, it'll give you some options

Next, at the right hand corner of the pop up screen, click that arrow.

Finally click that and choose where you wish to move too.
BUT FIRST, make sure you KNOW that is where you want to stay, it gets expensive after the first move, and after the second move... 4 times as expensive.
If I missed something, you need something more explained, or have more questions. Feel free to ask more.

For the outpost, does that mean I should leave an area where there are many outposts, especially 8:2, but very few players? I have found another place that has the outposts very close to each other, but is a bit far from civilization...

If you can find a spot near 250:1170, there are lots of empty 8:2 food OPs which look like this
hence the 8:2
This guy

has a few 8-foods in that area and is in ruins, so you could take his.
Your current alliance is okay, but would be way to far from the location I suggested.
(*Wink* Vanguards-DS has some property near there which can donate you res to build up if you want *Wink*) (definitely not trying to recruit you or anything nope) (disregard the fact that I'm not there. Look at my sig. That is true, regardless of where I am)
If you want to stay with your current alliance, I suggest either moving a few dozen distance away to where there are several 6:2 Food OPs (which are not as good but better than OPs big on wood or stone) an capping those or staying put and capping farther away OPs.
First option puts you close to decent OPs and a decent distance away from your alliancemates; second keeps you near your alliancemates but further from your OPs.
Also cap OPs near each other.
Regarding troops: In a strong alliance, you will win hundreds of defense troops from alliance rewards in the Foreign Invasions. If you hit the events well, at your level your primary concern will become killing off enough troops so you can go to bed and not wake up to a starvation message. Eventually the events (no pun intended) will get more challenging, but that's a while down the road.
Don't rush to level up as well. This is probably one of the most important (and most missed) points.

Always go over your food limit

I’ve got 19k men at my main, as long as I’m active I can feed them

Don't waste your time on stone/wood dominant outposts. If you can get Food 8 outposts, you'll be pretty lucky. Food 6 outposts are fine too, but if you have the choice between Food 8 and Food 6, choose 8. You can loot stone and wood pretty easily from other players and samurai and nomad camps.
As for being near civilization—it really doesn't matter how close you are to other players. Some smaller alliances prefer that you're close to them, but it shouldn't make much of a difference. If an alliance tells you to move your castle somewhere... don't do it. Especially if it's a smaller alliance that likely isn't permanent. Sometimes, however, there isn't an option to move away from civilization. When you select the move option, there are only certain places that you can move. If possible, though, move near Food 8 outposts and capture them as soon as possible.
You can also often capture Food 8 outposts from lower level players. Look around for a spot where there are lots of low-level players in weak alliances. You can take their outposts. This is normally frowned upon, so don't try it at a higher level or the repercussions could be serious. Also, make sure you're not taking an outpost from a player in a strong alliance.

Thank you all for helping me! I'll admit, I did things a lot of you guys told me not to, but my alliance does help me out, so luckily I'm not in too bad a position, from my view anyway... But now I'm curious: how long do units have until they die in the hospital? Because I only have so many rubies at hand, and only so many I'm willing to use and was hoping to save it up, but some of my traveling knights died. Does starvation send knights to the hospital? I just got one of the demon knights, and a lot of them all wound up in the hospital.
As for the outposts, most of the good ones seem to be pretty far away, and I'm not sure how to deal with sending and receiving supplies from the OPs.

Not that I'll necessarily go after that OP, but is it fine in general to take OPs from castles that are in ruin? I know that taking OPs from another player is against the player-written rules or something like that.
And finally, would it be a good idea to have outposts that gradually get farther? For example, I have three OPs (obviously not up to that level yet), with one close to my main, one farther away from the first OP, and another even farther away from the first OP (kind of like in a line).
