If I was a leader, then I joined an alliance, would I be able to leave alliance to go back to being leader of my own alliance again?

Nope, you leave the alliance, then whoever is next in line will take leadership(if multi, I believe it is alphabetical.), if you are alone in it, then your alliance will cease to exist
