Hello,
I am a relatively new player who only plays very part time. I just got my first food outpost and am trying to maximize food production. It is food/stone, so I have built only farms and quarrys. I thought the more farms I built, the more food, and the better my ratio. In my other areas,I am constantly sending men to the infirmary because of a lack of food and wanted to do this one right. I have six farms going and only a barracks, a keep and the quarrys and my ratio is 117/439, that is, production to consumption.
I am missing something really basic here.

Bakeries and WIndmills.
Also, don't worry if your production doesn't equal your consuption, you just have to make sure that you have enough time left to work with your troops and loot the food that you need to keep them and repeat.
Let me explain, you send your troops from the OP (Outpost) to loot, when they come they brough in more food than what they need to survive, if you repeat it enough you can make sure that they don't starve in a while.
