Hello all,
It appears that I underestimated this game. I was just looking for an entertaining way to pass the time and thought this a simple little game...
anyway, it appears that it is not, and I may have reached the point that I have to quit, since I can't put more time into it.

Here is my problem: I am level 36, and in order to build my soldiers up to be competitive with the nomads, or even rober barons over lvl 20, I have to build up so many men that I can feed them. Last night I lost 347 men to starvation and still would have barely had enough to take the local robber baron in a head to head.

Advice?

well as you said, the issue is that you are a part timer. Unfortunately to really progress well activity is critical.

Now the advice i can offer you:
1. Build up your farmhouses, bakeries, mills, and storehouses
2. Build up your PO buildings
3. try to log in at least 1x per day, preferably 2x per day and make sure you attack NPCs for food.

you may have to consider playing a different game if you find you still cannot play competitively.

Join a smaller server, Asia will be easy for low levels, level 70 you'll have to start putting in at least an hour a day to stay top 100. You managed to join one of the big severs that requires money or time to stay competitive. If you can spare 2/3 hours a day I would go Australia1. Otherwise you will need to start using looters (attacks that go out at night and collect food), and just work on food production. Even spending some money will also help "spend money on your hobbies" - Perryl

That's too much. On China 1 I earned the first place of the fortune wheel with only 5 spins, and my alliance won the storm islands with less than 100K Points. That was a year and a half ago.

Only time it's hard is when seasonal events start. It's 16k for top 50 in nomads when Khan's revenge is on. Top 100 in FC and BC is about 350k when the top alliances aren't at war, and 200k when they were. Top 50 for FC and BC is 600-700k. First is usually between 2mil and 15mil, varies a lot. Normal samurai and nomads is about 8k for top 100, most I've seen was 12k though. Berimond is even easier. 53k gets you top 15 when all too alliances are on the same side. And 53k on the other side can sometimes give you top 5.
