Is it possible to change the name that I assigned to my main?  And if so...HOW?   (step by step instructions would be very helpful, since I am a novice)

Yes you can change your castle name.
But it will cost you 2500 rubyes.

So, go to your main/outpost.
Go to Economy, and click on Management.


And it will appear a new page where you can change your castle name.
This works for every location for 2500 rubyes.
