I have the same castles and by appearance as much building wise as many others at my level, yet some have a very significant higher amount of might. I know a person can only support so many troops according to their food production and gathering. Is items that big of a deal? And yes I have lots of legendary com. and cast. plus the equipment to match. Yet I am still far away from the top of the ladder on might. What is it that I am missing? Or simply do not understand?

Get more equipments, you get more power from them than any building in the game.
Example, finish/get commanders, castellans.
Get as many decoratives you can, they give good power also.

Also, Titles are a big factor, especially the higher-tier ones. Most buildings do not contribute many might points.
Legendary EQ is good, but like Muffins said, lots of EQ is where it's at. Unique EQ gives ridiculous amounts of might points. If I swapped out all my legendary EQ with unique, I could inflate my might by probably around 100k points alone.
Troops are also a big deal. Losing 3k horrors at once dropped my might by like 15k points (I think; can't remember. Been a while since I had that many LOL). When I peaked in MP, I was running -8k food per hour in main and -4k/hr in OPs; -2.5k/hr in sands and fire, and -1.5k/hr in Ice (or thereabouts). Recently I've dropped that to -2k/hr in green, and -800/hr or so in kingdoms. (But with summer coming, I think I'm gonna go back to -3k/hr in green and -1.5k/h in kingdoms)

yes, I am aware that top tier players will often run -10k/hr everywhere, or even greater food deficits. I, however, wanted to have at least a semblance of a life.
tl;dr, get good titles, have red EQ, run crazy food deficits.

Just tested a bit my power, i'm in protection right now, and i droped really fast on my titles/berimond/glory. To around 300k on glory and 25k on berimond, i'm at 960k power with no titles. And did some testing to see, at how much power i drop with no commanders or cast's on my account, i droped at like 650k power, so my eq's give like 310k power. So yeah, having lot's of unique eq give good power.JYT (US1) said:
Also if you're low level player, now you get really easy the invader set, that gives good power..

you can get might by giving commanders/castellans equipment
