Hello,
I was planning on changing my food 6 op to a food 8 op and I am giving the op to a guy from our academy and I was wondering whether I had to remove all the build items from the building before he captures the op, or will I get them back when the guy captures them?

The builditems will return back to you. At least that's how it was for me.
I'd recommend that you remove all of them manually though if you're still uncertain about it.

How do you abandon one op so you can capture another op? I transferred all of my troops out of the op I want to get rid of but it still won't let me capture the new op. Help please...

You most likely have 3 ops which are the max limits of ops a player can have, you want to abandon your op and you transferred your troops out of there...
The things you now need to do to capture a new op is going into the management section of the op you want to abandon and then press on the surrender button it will tell you that it takes 24h to surrender the op and after that time you can capture a new one.

When you transfer an outpost, either by abandoning (surrendering) it, or by having it captured by another player,
- All decorations (PO), Tools and construction items will return to the original player's Main Castle.
- Most of the production buildings will turn to rubble, (unless they were already at 100% fire damage)
- Any resources left in the store room will stay with the castle, and either go to the new owner, or disappear into oblivion.
