Topic: [357726] US Server - PvP ragisms?

I'm throwing a genuine question out there to all you US1 players:

So I'm having fun plodding along quietly on the US server, and I received a random hit one night from a similar levelled peep in a small alliance with a pretty nice self built comm, got burned, cool cool. I sent him a message saying "nice hit, what's the comm" basically and got a fairly snarky response because he thought I'd gone full whine mode. Had a nice chat after that, got an interesting low level hybrid comm build out of it (even if I couldn't afford the dorgo pieces to build the thing), and found out that he'd already received a formal "don't mess with us again cos we'll get big bro involved" threat from a senior member of where I was (naming as few people or alliances as possible here).

I find this really sad - like PvP scrappery is one of the few genuinely fun things left, and I didn't have any issues with the hit at all. Is this like a general thing on the server that you hit any sub (or maybe just any player in an alliance connected to anyone at all lol?) and people start squaring up with "Get lost or I set my Dad on you" type stuff?

Isn't this the same case with a majority of the servers?
At least i can relate to this 100% playing on the INT2 server.

The game today is A LOT more centralized around politics than before.

Most alliances fights for growth and recognition.
What is then the most beneficial way to gain all of this?

The answer to this is the events.

Generally speaking, the better an alliance scores in the events the more recognition it receives and the more attractive it becomes.

It also seems like event scores has became a way for alliances to directly fight and compare strenghts and activity with each other without actually having to engage in any real pvp battles. For example, an alliance that always places 8th or above in an event is generally seen as stronger and more active than an alliance that usually places around the top 20ths.

Then, why not pvp and war in order to gain growth and recognition?

Because pvp is not nearly as safe or beneficial of a method to do this as with the events.
I mean, a war resulting in a defeat has the potential to cause much greater damage on an alliance than let's say a bad score in a nomad event. Wars and pvp also costs a lot more time and resources providing much less gain than a top position in an event.

Because of this, a lot of alliances are isolating themselves, constructing these huge walls and shells, therefore also creating this hostility towards pvp and incoming attacks. If you do not desire to be attacked, then it's pretty easy nowadays to just let your superior friends and allies do the talking for you. Most often, just making these threats is enough to make others distance themselves from you with the simple explaination that many alliances today neither wants to or have the motivation to war, especially if it's someone more powerful than you.

Simple answer: Events have taken over the game.

Maybe it is, I dunno, I thought US was more open happy fighty fighty. I've already had plenty of butthurt "OMG WHY U HIT ME, WHAT U THINK THIS IS? WAR GAME??!" from my local server.

I suppose I come from the sort of old-ish philosophy that the only purpose of events and building up is to be stronger in fights against your peers, rather than an end in itself.

That's my philosophy too, that events are a means to an end.  The reason you get the why did you attack me bit so much is because the PVP economic as well as the attack/defense balance is broken(and has been for a long time).  People get used to a "new normal" pretty fast.

yep, gge ruined their own game, and now can't seem to figure out the fix, or maybe just too late for that. so now what we see is just general "milking" of their player base until....game over.
