Rubies should be WAY easier to get. I get like 0-20 rubies a day, and I am not an idle player, nor a player that buys things for real money. :disappointed: 
I also see getting rubies for defeating robber baron castles in the game help but every time I defeat a robber baron castle, nothing whatsoever happens to my rubies. :confounded:
Like I said. I am never, am NEVER, going to the shop to buy rubies. Anyway, they are just too expensive!! 
  1. If it’s too hard to get rubies, this game sucks.
  2. If I the fastest way of getting rubies is buying them in the shop, this game also sucks.
  3. I am level 13 and getting 0-20 rubies per day. This game is already sucking.

Given your level I presume you are new to the game. So let me give you a few tips to rubies.
  1. Looting Robber Barons will give rubies in small quantities yes, but if your towers are at low levels it isn't as common. Once you have them at higher levels and in other kingdoms as well you'll get more.
  2. In Ice, Sands, and Fire there are Fortresses that can be attacked for rubies as well.
  3. For levels 10-20 if you get top 20 in events you'll receive several thousand from that.
  4. If you complete your daily quests, then you will get 100 rubies.

....another option is to subscribe as an individual player and use the Ruby Well
