Hello. How do you change the appearance of your castle on the world map? The picture is an example of one, I know there are many others, I don't mean specifically that one.

You can win and buy castallen look pieces, some a permanent and give no bonus others are only active for a short time but give great bonuses. You can apply these just like any other equipment piece.

I believe the master blacksmith (yellow tent) sells some for gold tokens, you can find a few in the equipment trader (temporary) and a bunch of them in 1 of the 4 bestsellers. However, you unlock the bestseller by spending money in the game. It unlocks as soon as you spend a penny.

Ok, is there a list of items and their effects somewhere?

I don't think there is a list of effects, but when you hover over them/click on them in the bestsellers/blacksmith they will show what effects the look item will apply.  Not all looks have effects though.
