That just indicates that you are looking for an alliance. The other thing that shows up there is your rank in the alliance, king, general etc. You can switch the purple thing off but i'm not sure how

those symbols are the rank the players have in their alliance
The yellow crown means the player is the leadetr of the alliance
the silver crown means the player is the general
and the other two ones are sargeant and member
and the exclamation mark mean the player is looking for an alliance

you need to build a tavern, after that go to the world map, click on the castle you want to spy, click on "espionage" select accuracy and ready
