Topic: [75229] Questions about alliances (distances, upgrades)

When searching for an alliance to join, what is a good balance of distances between the other members and your castle? I am talking in terms of being close enough so we can send support troops (in case of attack) or resources (exchange) and also to have some 'breathing' room so possible targets (other players) don't overlap.

I received an offer yesterday to join an alliance but declined due to the fact that 1/2 of the members were 80 clicks (click = distance measurement unit (army slang)) away and the other 1/2 were at 400-500 clicks.

Today in the forums learned that alliances get to do upgrades that reduce the travelling time (which upgrades need resources to upgrade). I am assuming there are different upgrades for sending army to an ally and attacking RBCs or players.

How is the time decrease calculated? For each level of the upgrade i am assuming there is 10% decrease (typical for the game) so if travel time is 100 minutes, with a 10% decrease becomes 90 minutes?

Thank you for your time

anyone care to offer some input?

My opinion: if they sent you an invitation, they must have thought you were a good candidate and were willing to work with distance. 80 miles is not that great of a distance if they are active alliance or if a few in your area have stable upgrades. I would much rather have a neighbor that is a available than to have 5 that are not logged on, or that are on, but not there. If distance was the main deciding factor of accepting or not, you could ask if there is space available to invite a neighbor close to you. hmm you mention that you already decline?
**almost 600 miles from me

Yes, declined 'cause of the distance issue. But the offer is still up for grabs, hence I thought to get some help on the boards in making up my mind.

I think you could accept and see :)
You are not allowed to donate for the first 24 hours, so--if you don't like that one, you can bow out whenever you decide to go on your own or with another alliance.

I think others might have some input as well though.
And i have no idea how time is calculated--too many variables of using rubies and stable upgrades (and my math is no good LOL)

Thanks. I guess the best approach is trial-n-error. As far as calculating travel times goes, I was asking about the alliance upgrades.

For alliance upgrades

Support - Travel Speed: Increases the travel speed of troops you send to support the members of your alliance.

Market Barrow - Travel Speed: Increases the travel speed of market barrows between alliance members.

Attack - Travel Speed: Increases the speed of your attacking armies against members of alliances you have declared war upon.

All of these are calculated in percentages.
For the alliance I'm in, we're at least over 40% in Support Speed and Market Barrow Speed, and at least above 10% in Attack Speed against alliances we're at war with.

You can send soldiers to defend an attack by your ally. The troops can only used in an defence situation. The soldiers stay at the castle for defence and can't be used to attack the enemies castle by your ally.
