Apparently since they attack you back...
Is it worth it to level them past say, level 8?
If they're just going to attack you at random times and take your wall defenses and/or troops and potentially burn your buildings, and you lose soldiers when you attack them too, is it even worth it?
would it not be more beneficial, resource wise, to just PvP?

That is true. Once i get these ones up to level seven I am going to start branching out until i get a few levels higher

Robber barons' attacks are based purely on your level, NOT their level. For instance, a level 1 RBC might attack you with 30 troops. A level 50 RBC would still attack you with 30 troops.
Whether you want to level up RBCs is your choice, but don't base it on the fact that they attack back.

If you don't want to lose your troops, you can either send them to a food outpost or send them attack someone else and then send them back after the attack

Yes, but do not think that they will attack with the troops you have available. For instance, they might send heavy crossbowmen to a level 15, but they will not send very many because HCB are a lot stronger than the defending troops a level 15 can get.

I don't know where you got your information from, but I know from experience that they do set buildings on fire if you lose. However, like with normal attacks, there need to be enough of their troops that survive for even 1 fire to be lit.

if you lose money with them is because you don't know how to attack properly, attacking RBC's or NPC's in general is very profitable

Put counter-units or go for the wall with the least units?

there are a lot of strategies you can use, always spy and use the proper soldiers and tools, RBC's are really profitable once you level them up Attachment not found. as you can see there I lose some soldiers and I earn lots of coins from RBC's

doesn't matter, it could be level 1 and send like 100 attack men right at your door steps. or moats steps.
some times i look at the overview and see if my alliance is getting any attacks and i see 150 men,
i was ready to send defense men to help him out but it was a baron.
i dont get in trouble if i dont support on that lol
and for me i get the same amount of baron men and its only level 1. so no. but the cool thing is. attack that baron a bunch of times. and its a high level. wait for it to attack you, then unleash hell at the barons castle.
there is no men at all and you get free resources rubies and coins with no men loss and you could win a quest.
so let that be a tip

what do you do if there are soliders on both sides of the flanks, and empty in the middle?
I sent my troops to the middle and they ended up all fighting in the courtyard anyways

I attack a flank and the middle so in the keep I have 0% and not -30% of power, because you'll lose a lot of soldiers if you attack only one side

i keep attacking level 7 rbcs, losing no soldiers and gaining 233 coins each time, so im gaining coins quickly plus you get map and relic pieces

I have near my castel a lvl 8 RBC. First i attacked it with 10 maceman without realizing that it has crossbow troops on the wall and i lost 10 maceman

This is not true, I have tried it, it does nothing at all, they attack with heavy attackers, which are not defenders until past level 20, the troops they attack with are dropped by aliens before the attack and reabducted afterwards (if they win)
