for defense tools, say there are 2 stone throwing tools in each section of my castle wall. if someone attacks me with one wave, is only one stone throwing tool used up for each section of my wall? AKA... will i have a total of three stone throwing tools on my castle wall after the attack (one on each section?)

you lose (use) 1 tool per slot per wave
So if you have 2 slots with stone throwing you will use both on the same wave, and if you have a slot with 2 stone throwing, you will only use 1 stone throwing that wave

so you are saying use different tools in each slot? and if i only use i tool per slot per wave what if the attacker sends 88 tools distributed between 3 flanks? how would i set up my tools to defend that.

the attacker's tools aren't as strong as the defenders ones, and also you have walls and gate and moat (if you have) bonuses on your side

so if each flank has 3 slots for tools. each with a tool. why as an attacker send 80+ tools? you can see the walls and tower of the people you attack to figure the defense bonus... isnt that useless overkill?

no, because the attacks split in over 4 waves, and also 3 stone throwings are fully countered by 7 ladders, + wall bonus let's say of 60% needs other 6 ladders, is not over kill is the fact attackers needs more tools to counter the powerful defender tools, wall, gate and moat bonuses In all waves

what if you have a tar pitch kettle and stone throwing in the same wall section and one wave of attack comes. are both tools used up or is one tool used up and one remains?

also, if only one is used up, how is it decided which tool will be used up?
