I have noticed that on some successful attacks my men come back with unused tools, particularly banners. On the last attack, I filled all the slots on all waves and the defender had units on all slots as well, so no troops didn't fight as far as I can tell. My first wave had some ladders and battering rams and some banners (10 ladders and 20 banners per flank, 10 ladders + 10 rams + 20 banners in middle). The 2nd and 3rd waves I filled all tool slots with banners (100 per wave). I won the fight and my men came back with 200 banners (all the banners sent in waves 2 and 3). So even though I sent 260 banners in total, only 60 got used.
Why did this happen?
I have done similar attacks with the same tool configuration where all banners got used. Why do some tools not get used on some attacks? Can someone please explain this to me? In this case I would have got an extra 200% glory. I need to figure this out so I can maximize glory on a big attack. It is hard to find a sitting duck army ripe for harvesting glory and I hate to waste potential glory like this. I got about 3800 glory on this attack but I probably would have got over 8000 had all the banners been used.

I am not sure, but I think that banners only affect glory for that flank, so once there are no troops there, you cant get more glory, so you cant use banners

Even if the tools go to waste, they should still be used. For instance, if I kill all the defenders on the left flank in wave 1, and send 5 scaling ladders in wave 2 on the left, they would still be used up.

Happened to me, I sent an attack and some ruby tools and banners returned but the opponent didn't opened the gates

if what bobfighter said is true, then it is probably a helpful bug
