So I've been reading some of these entries and people have said you get 1 tool per attack round spent per slot. ie. 1 throwing rock for the first wave and 1 for the next etc. I attacked a castle last night with 2 waves and on one of the flanks there were 3 throwing rocks against me the first round and 2 the next. I go back to the original statement and am confused. Also how as a defender can I stage this in the slots? Say I have 2 slots for the flank. How do I get it to understand I want 3 stones for the first wave and 2 the next? I don't see an option to set up in waves. I would think like other people have said that if you put 2 rock you get one for the first wave and 1 for the 2nd but I was hit with 5 in 2 rounds. Anyone help? Thanks

you will use always one tool per round per slot, always
what happened in a battle is this
the guy had level 3 walls
Slot1: Stone Throwing (2 or more), Slot2: Stone Throwing (2 or more) Slot3: Stone Throwing (1)
In the first wave he will use 3 stone throwing, and in the second one only two because he only had 1 stone throwing in one of the slots

Alright that makes sense. I thank you! Looking back they have their wall upgraded to 3 not the gate or towers.

Sorry for asking another question. If that's the case why does it give you the option to stack 10 at a time? In case you are away for 4 attacks? Did I answer my own question?

yes, and your information is wrong, you can stack 99 at the same time in an slot I guess, and yes if you put 99 in a slot that will make sure those 99 last at least for 24 4 wave attacks if you put 33, 33, 33 in the 3 slots they will last around 7, 4 waves attacks, but will grant you more bonus because you will be putting more to be used in one wave
