When it reaches zero, you will instantly lose troops randomly until your food production is above your food consumption.
It sucks to lose your traveling soldiers that way...

They dessert... so never send a capture attack when you station all your soliders to your man and make yourself have -2500 food and end up begging everyone around you cuz you never built marketplaces in your OPs and your stupid enough to join an alliance like 100 away from you... hint hint it was me long time ago

Do you lose ALL soldiers or some of them?

As much as there needs to be until your food production is above your food consumption.

I think it starts with one type of soldiers and reduces them, then moves on to the next type of soldiers. I once had vet. macemen and vet. crossbowmen stationed in the desert and after food ran out I only had crossbowmen left.

Safest precaution: keep your amount your men eat just under the food production. Only boost your army significantly above the food production amount when you're gonna make a big move, and expect heavy casualties. With an upgraded storage, maxed out of food (cuz usually your food consumption isn't overloaded, remember?), you should easily survive a couple days.

Just a tiny problem with that. "As much as there needs to be until your food production is above or equal to your food consumption."

Just to confirm, this is the same with outposts, other kingdoms, monthly events (e.g. Thorn King + Icy Siege) and anything else I've missed.

With storage level 6 you can have a negative -100 per hour and be completely safe, just dont hire big feasts

With a level 6 storage you can have -1000 per hour and be completely safe, for a while.

Big feasts are fine, if you have enough coins to recruit a ton of troops, no life so you can be online every half an hour recruiting troops and enough food to spare.

This is just me nitpicking, but a double negative is a positive, so "negative -100" is actually "+100", unless I'm mistaken.
