Yesterday I was browsing Google Play looking for an app that would let me play Goodgame Empire on my Android Device. I only found two and neither of them worked.

I decided I wanted to create my own as a challenge to me to brush up on my programming skills.

***THIS APP WOULD NOT LET YOU PLAY GGE ON YOUR DEVICE. IT WOULD BE A CALCULATOR AND/OR RESOURCE FOR YOU WHILE YOU PLAY GGE***

I want this app to be able to be simple to use but useful to veterans as well as new players.

What I was planning on:
- Being able to check time remaining on construction, attacks, and taxes
- Being able to check your current resources
- Having a "wiki" like section that shows a picture of buildings, costs, etc... (somewhat like the new wiki page being built but integrated in the app so you don't have to switch back and forth)

What I am hoping for:
- GGS approval (I do not want to infringe upon any copyrights or cross GGS in anyway)
- Someone that knows Java well to help me program (I know what I am looking for conceptually and I have used C# quite a bit but it would be nice to have a partner on this project that was really familiar with Java)
- I would like for users to be able to sign into their accounts to check the information I stated above so hopefully GGS could work with me on this
- If you can't help with any of the above bullet points. Feel free to reply with other suggestions this app could do.

Sounds good to me, apart from one thing: the attacks bit. I just don't like it. If I'm attacking 9 low level RBCs, I don't want to see them all on an app, especially when it doesn't show you the troops you're currently recruiting.

Don't take this as an official answer, just my input on the matter.

Firstly, we more than likely would not allow any third party application to access the databases as you have suggested. This would be too difficult to control and could easily case a data breach.

couldnt you shove loads of extra security in?

Ok. An idea I had... (don't get me wrong, I know this would take a lot of work and you guys already have a lot on your hands) was that maybe there was a way to make certain values public through an API. Maybe even just publish out those numbers to a public server every 5 minutes so the app is accurate to somewhere in the last 5 minutes. That way there isn't any security breach since the app wouldn't be prying it's way into the server... The server would just take a picture of itself, send that data to a public server, where then the app can pick it up and display it.

But then again I don't run an online game with thousands of users so that may be the dumbest idea ever. haha. Just thought I may toss out a random idea

I doubt anything in an MMORPG is a simple as shoving something in. Virtus suggested what sounds to me like a great idea, but I have no real experience with anything technical that's more complicated than working a spreadsheet (mind you, it was a great spreadsheet - it had conditional formatting and everything :P).

At least this is an Original Idea, and doesn't look bad at all o_O

Thank you all for the positive feedback. So if I am unable to access the GGE servers, what other features do you guys want other than an informative wiki like section?

Why isn't this a thing that exists? think of the advertising revenue...advertise me game of thrones box sets all day, I don't care, just give me an app to keep tabs on my set up. Better yet, make it like the economy overview page, but with an option to support alliance memebers with soldiers...do something for god sakes, think of the ad revenue!

I think this is a good idea. I think you should be able to create most of the app without needing access to the server, then you could give this to GGE that could make it an app themselves. Try to get as far as you can with it then maybe start working on an actual app for GGE.

Ive personally messaged some of the FAQ and they said the same thing. I wish we could have the app soooooo bad! Life made 10X easier.
