Just wanted to know what some higher level players thought...
What do you consider a good army for a Lv. 21 like me? How many troops should I have? What kind of troops should I have? All advice will be appreciated.

You should have as many troops as you can feed, or slightly more if you're actively attacking.
I would say a 50/50 split of defenders/attackers isn't a bad choice.
Basically, you should have enough defenders to protect against the level of attacks you receive and enough attackers to fill all three waves of an attack on your average target.
If you don't have enough food to feed that number of troops you'll need to make a decision whether to play an attacking game or a defending game.
I would also say that having enough tools to fill every defense slot with 20 units and enough attacking tools to send 3 full waves of max tools is also a good target. Tools can save you hundreds of troops and they only cost resources (or rubies if you use ruby tools).

Ok, I have more of an attacking style and a very strong alliance, so I'll probably go with more attacking troops.
I'll try to be a bit more active in buying tools and having them stocked for use.

By the way you cant go rong with variety that i a good advantage in Defence/attack it caches the defender off gard in defence it caches the attacker off gard when attacking a variety of soilder belive be its happened to me alot

At least 40 of each of the strongest defenders you can have split up into a 0|65|35 format.

uhmm i usually fill up with max defenders.. so they max out foodoutput
and hten i havve anything from 400-1000 in food shortage from my attacking soldiers alone, depending on how active i feel
