I sent support to an alliance player, they were being attacked by 356 men (double / heavy cross mix) I sent 600 defenders (mix of Halbardier and Longbow) 400 died and my alliance player lost 200 and won the fight. My question is:
When you send support, are the support defenders weakened because they are stationed outside the castle? The attacking army has tools and the supporting army do not and they dont have walls to hide behind. Does anyone know? If my alliance player had no defenders, would i have lost all 600 against their 365 attackers?

When you station your army they become a part of the defenses of the player you sent them to.
If your soldiers are stronger than the existing defenders in that castle then your soldiers will go on the walls first (the strongest always go on the walls). I'm guessing that the player you supported had weaker soldiers than you, that's why more of yours died.
The tools your soldiers use are whatever tools are in that castle at the time.
Hope this helps.

Your alliance member that you sent troops to support had very bad defences in place, and probably set up badly too.... that is what happened my friend.
Your stationed troops were inside his castle/outpost, but were subject to the same bad defences and organisation that the indiginous troops there were! That is to say, if the attacking force was well organised and carrying the right tools then they will wreak devastion on a castle with no defences/poor deployment.
I have wiped out 114 heavy ranged defenders with just 30 of the right troops and a few (10) mantles in the past, and I only lost about 14 men lol! (That was because there were also a few farmers with pitchforks on the wall who were able to fight, the ranged defenders had zero defence).
Tell him he owes you 400 troops for being a noob.
