So I attacked a robber baron and it said there was no battle because the castle is not being held by its original owner.
What does this mean?!?!?!?!?!X(X(X(X(X(

It means you accidentally sent two attacks on the same tower. The first one won and therefor the tower was under the three hour protection. Happens to me sometimes when I'm doing the Travelling Knights quest.
