To answer the question and save the player from having to waste coins on the espionage, there are 96 defenders and 6 tools:

or, in more detail,

11 ax, 16 bow, 1 flaming arrow | 21 bow, 12 ax, 2 reinforcement, 2 stone | 14 ax, 22 bow, 1 stone

One more thing... What is the wall strength without tools? My spy reports used to show only the percentage that the tools added, which would suggest there is 0% wall and gate defense... But I lost way too many soldiers when I relied on that information. Any ideas why?

I thought 0% as well. It's extremely difficult to predict how many soldiers you will lose, so you might have lost a lot for many different reasons.

I think that RBCs' defence tools stack - 2 stone throwing actually means +50%, not +25% for 2 waves. That could be a reason, if I'm correct and you didn't factor that in.

I just spied on a barbarian fortress and it had 102 soldiers and the soldiers on the flanks were not of the same numbers.

Then you didn't spy with 100% accuracy, or it was a bug.
