I still dont understand this. Why should you leave a hole in the middle of your wall for people just to advance down center without any blockage. Does it have to do with flanks?

Basically it has everything to do with bonuses in the keep. If the attacker is able to defeat all three walls, that means he will get a 30% bonus when he fights the remaining defenders in the keep. If the attacker wins two walls, there will be no advantage for either side in the keep. If the attacker can only defeat one wall, then the defender gets a 30% advantage. So basically the reasoning behind the 50-0-50 defense is this: if you try to defend all three walls against a full attack on all three flanks, you'll be too spread out and easily defeated. If you consolidate your forces on two walls, you have a much better chance of winning those two walls, and you will then be able to take on the remaining attackers in the keep with a 30% bonus.
