Topic: [77615] Glory and honor

[-77615] croindene [None] :: Sept. 26, 2012, 10:16 p.m.
I'm a level 39 with honor of 1300 and obviously looking to increase it by attacking castles/outposts of same or higher level. Yet when looking around my area the majority of attackable castles show that if I attacked them I would receive 0 honor and 0 glory. I am aware of protected status and it is not that. I am aware that most seem to have less honor than me, is that the problem. Thanks in advance.

Yes your problem is that most of the players are aware that keeping low honor is safer. This is valid for you to :)

Yes, there's no benefit to having high honour at all except the achievements. In fact it becomes a burden as you'll need to travel much farther to find a target and you will become more of a target to other players.

After you get you honor up high, try to maintain it and start working on maxing out glory. People will attack you for honor and some of those battles may bring you more honor and glory.

You get a glory bonus from honour. I get almost a 50% bonus with 1200 honour.

Good point, well made.

i have a hard time finding people to attack so im attacking someone right now and its so far away i sent like 3 times as many troops as i would have if they were close by just in case it affects my troops effectiveness. then i hope i win but i hope they aren't destroyed. Kinda overkill. oh well ill find out in 2hrs (90m away). i get so nervous with attacks.

There are things i look for:

-at least 50 away because i know all my neighbors
- about same size alliance
- iv'e never attacked them before
-more honor than me
-higher level or lower level so be it if your honor is ridiculous

does it sound right? not more than 10 levels below me... or 10 higher. or maybe 5 levels... its a helpless feeling being attacked by someone more than 10 levels higher. with smaller alliances. sigh* but it comes with the territory as long as my alliance isn't being farmed. it's ok. fair game.

i haven't experienced a war yet. so i try to keep it friendly. last time i was in a war they were too far to even try meh...

whew a lot huh?

Nope. The troops still have the exact same power - they don't get tired or anything. It would be horrible if you sent support 200 miles away and then the troops lost half their power, or even if you send 1040 troops and hundreds of armourer tools to a castle 700 miles away just to find out that you lost to a bunch of armed citizens.

A rather basic question from me, I'm afraid; do you get more glory from sending large numbers of troops or from sending stronger troops? Also following on from one of the points above, what is the best way to lower honour?
Thanks in advance for your help

I think it's based on total number of troops and how many die in the battle. You get more if you kill more.

Easiest way to lose honour would be to launch an attack using only the minimum number of troops (make them the weakest you can recruit) to a lower level player with a lot less honour than you, don't send any tools and you should lose. Whatever it says on the attack screen is how much you lose if you win, it's at least treble that if you lose.

Thank you Baldrick. That sounds like a cunning plan ;-P

I did, I'm sure others have...

@pinup2 - Sounds like you have too many rules to me...

-at least 50 away because i know all my neighbors: if they are much stronger/more aggressive than you or you have pact/NAA ok, but otherwise why?
- about same size alliance: if you really want to be nice ok, but I again I wouldn't bother. If you only hit them once what's the problem? If you all send attacks that could be bullying but attacking one strong player in a small alliance shouldn't be a problem, they choose what alliance to be in, not you.
- iv'e never attacked them before: I wouldn't send constant attacks but hitting people every now and again isn't a problem; I've attacked a lot of people near me mutliple times for the shady character event. Being attacked by high levels when I was lv30ish helped me learn how to defend, so when they came back a second or third time I was able to beat them, so you could actually be doing people a favour attacking more than once.
-more honor than me: why? Honour means little (except for rankings and glory bonus), there are very strong players who care little for honour, in fact, some serious bullies must have very low honour if they attack weak players all the time. So long as they have enough honour for you to get glory points I would attack them anyway.

@ Helmler

Thanks for your input :)

I am trying to be cool with people nearby to me we've talked about the shady missions and give resources in a good measure for the rebuild to be less shady, or civil. makes it more fun i think finding out some neighbors are cool. sometimes it can get stressful in the beginning. seeing your building on fire the first few times can make a person desperate, bitter and seek revenge, lose interest or quit. it's easy to forget it's just a game.

The new feature of moving castles is a game changer and alliances need to be tight to report bullies or the larger alliances moving in close by.

this is my second go around at this and my 1st alliance was fun got a few wild cards in the group, i made some bad decisions myself and it was over before i really started.

i've gotten further this time so i've done something right... i get rubies now and then.. im invested.. i just wanna be cool, generous, til one day ill have to cash my karma in and make it out of a bad situation. And peak out in all the choas. lol

to each his own...

@croindene

There is a thread on glory honor calculations

it seems like a tuff spot to have no competition around and moving your castle... maybe switching up alliances... might be an option if you can find people, around your ranking, in level/glory to move near. i don't see why a good alliance wouldn't wanna snatch you up :) if you ask around.
