I grabbed a couple mystery boxes and one had the moat alligator in it.

Question. I (obviously) do not have a moat yet so does it stay "stashed" until my moat upgrade is completed?

Yes. It will stay in your inventory until you gain a moat and you decide to put it in. Once you use it in a battle it will be gone.
