Once I've moved my main castle, how can I scrap the outpost that was near it so that I might gain one closer to my new location?

Click on the little crate on the menu. In your outpost go to management> surrender outpost. There is a 24 hour wait period before the outpost is surrendered. Move all supplies and men to your main castle or another outpost if you have one to avoid losing them.

Unfortunately you cannot station troops or send resources to your main castle or vice versa during the moving period, so you should send them before you choose the new location
