Everyday a particular player attacks me twice, annihilating all my troops and burning most of my buildings. As soon as I fix this, they do it again:(. I have never attacked them in the past, yet they persist it attacking me. I know the game is basically one big free-for-all but this player's attacks are getting too frequent. What should I do?

Have you tried talking to the attacker? Ask why he/she is doing it and see if there's any way you can come to an agreement.
Also, is the attacker getting honour and glory from the attacks? If they are, you could try reducing your honour, this may stop the attacks.
If the attacker is a much higher level than you, you could try telling other players what's happening. They may be able to help you too.
You could also try joining an alliance that is at war with the attacker, that way you'd get more support.
Lot's of ways to try to avoid the attacks. Start be talking to the attacker first, be kind and relaxed in the messaging and just start by asking why.

join a good alliance and have them help you fight him or scare him off.

They may looking for food (like me , in past)
try to talk with him, to trade something
he should willing to do trade becos ..deploy army is very tired and he also cannot re-hit within a "time-limit"

Baldrick is right, you should message the person who is attacking you and ask them why they are attacking you. Also, if they are in an alliance, you could tell their leader what is going on, they could stop the attacks for you.
