Is it possible to search for unclaimed high yeild outposts?

You mean like a button to find them?
Well, actually there isn't one, you will have to find them in the world map.

i don't think there is a point in having a search function. you want the OP close to your main (15-20 miles max) in order to be able to exchange resources and to be able to send defenders faster

it woulb be helpful to set a radius (e.g 20 miles) and search for high yeild outposts

log in here: http://empire.goodgamestudios.com/, go to map and click on the zoom-out button. In addition, you can also select full-screen. If your resolution is high enough, you will be able to see a huge map. In my laptop, using the aforementioned settings, and my castle at the center of the map, I can see 9 miles north/south and 17 miles east/west
you can use arrows to navigate the map
it's very easy to spot the shiny ops, since there are very few on the map

Are there any special requirements or limitations to high yield outposts?

Just look on the map with your eyes, they will do you wonders!

Free outpost is really easy to find, even the sparkling one. There's no meaning if you can search them and they are 80 miles from you :O

Yep there are plenty of free outposts, even shining ones (though they are rarer). If there's not a shining one near you that's unfortunate, but it won't make too much difference to have a normal one until the outpost is really well developed though (by which time you should be strong enough to steal other peoples'). As people have said it needs to be close so it shouldn't be too hard (just wait until you have to scan the entire map for Resource Villages once you reach Everwinter Glacier level 25).
