no, to both questions
and to top it off, the player sending the support troops loses more troops than the defender (castle owner)

The advantages of support are:
1. You get to help a friend in need.
2. It's possible that the player will want to repay you or that your alliance leader will promote you because of this, or some other psychological side-effect.
The disadvantages are:
1. It costs coins.
2. It uses troops that could be attacking or defending for your own benefit.
3. You gain no honour, glory, loot or anything else.
4. You might lose troops if the player you're supporting gets attacked.
But surely advantage #1 should outweigh all the disadvantages. Support troops were not implemented for the greedy or selfish (I'm not accusing anyone of being either, I'm just making a general statement).
