I heard that after a castle is attacked there is a 24-hr wait period before that castle can be attacked again. Does that only apply to a castle that has been defeated? What if a castle that was attacked was victorious but suffered great losses in the victory--does the 24-hr wait apply to that castle as well?
And if there is a 24-hr wait period, is that castle (say castle A) free from attack from all castles or just free from attack from the enemy castle (say castle
that initially attacked castle A?
Also then are attack waves allowed where many different castles can engage in a series of attacks on a single castle which is basically putting a castle into ruins or forces a player to move his castle to another place?

The wait period only applies to you, after you defeat that player in an offensive battle (you being the attacker). It lasts at least 3 hours, but this time may increase based on both of your levels. There may be other factors - I'm not sure.
"Attacking waves" (sending more than one attack from more than one player on the same player castle) are allowed and are the main way to attack in a large alliance.
A castle cannot go into ruins through attacks. It goes into ruins if the player is inactive (does not sign on for their level + 1 days). You can set every single building on fire 100% but you can NEVER turn a building into rubble or cause any castle or any player to EVER go into ruins.
You cannot "force" a player to move their castle, however, you can do things which might cause him/her to move. Attacking, sabotage (if you're really that demented) and in-game threats (NOT in real life, but things like "give me 1000 food or I'll attack you") can all influence a player's decision on whether to move or not.
