When you abandon an outpost, does it immediately give you a free castilian or do you have to wait a day for the outpost to completely abandon? In other words, if I abandon my outpost, will I have to wait a day to capture another?

You will have to wait till the outpost is completely abandoned before you can take control of another outpost. Even after you click to abandon the outpost you still control it until the 24hr period is over.
