OK. So if you abandon your outposts and then move your castles will you get to keep the outposts and the items in the outposts?

No, you lose everything that is on that outpost, this includes tools, soldiers, buildings and resources.
You can move the tools, soldiers and resources if you like before it is abandoned.
After you click on abandon, and 24 hours have passed, the outpost will be like the "default" outposts in the map.

I mean on the outposts you "inherit" or is that what you mean?

you mean taking other people's outposts? if that is the case, then yes you will keep the buildings and everything there, except for some random buildings that will go in rubble.
