I was about to capture another player's outpost and it said

Period of occupation: 1 day

What does that mean?

Does it mean that I can only keep my lovely outpost for 1 measly day
Does it mean that it'll take 1 day for my troops to ride over?
Does it mean that I have to wait for 1 day the time for my troops to get there?

I have no idea.

it means that once you have attacked it, you must defend it successfully for 1 day. if you keep it for one day, then it will become yours

Yup, thats it. So if you're capturing another players outpost, make sure that player isn't very active. Once someone tried to take my outpost, but I was online and sent troops to crush his army.
