2-handed swordsmen (better)
veteran macemen (middle)
knights of the kingsguard (good)

Well, yes, and you could add a load of other types of troops as well, but my list was out of the troops that were being discussed.

Question.. What happens if you got macemen (the normal ones) for like a random number.
And then you research the veterans macemen. what happens with the old weak ones? :)

You keep the ones you already have, but you won't be able to train new ones any more (the veteran version replaces the ordinary version in the barracks for some reason). All the ones you already had will still be there and usable until they are killed in battle (or desert) though.

No, they replace the normal ones in the barracks.

No. You will still keep the regular macemen/spearmen/crossbowmen/bowmen. You can just recruit them later.

unless you have ruby tools the speed doesn't really help you, as wooden tools are like not much more than half the speed of even the slowest normal troops

Veteran maceman are recruited via the research tower. They're obviously more powerful than Two-Handed Sword because you have to be a higher level, and they ARE veteran type.

Research times are different though:

Veteran Macemen: 156 hours
Veteran Crossbowman: 156 hours
Veteran Spearmen: 96 hours
Veteran Bowmen: 96 hours

They then replace tier one troops (Maceman, crossbowman, spearman, bowman). You can also train all veteran troops in a level 2 barracks. Although they are rather expensive. For example, 5 veteran maceman cost 805 gold.

i personally don't think they are very good investment. they're not much stronger than the two-handed sword and cost a lot more. Also, you can get two handed sword from level 20 with level 4 barracks. But you need to be on level 39 and have a research tower to build vets.

but that's just me
