Topic: [286590] Why Alliances Threaten Unallianced Players

Since starting this game I have received many alliance invitations. Most are friendly. However, several have veiled threats that I will be attacked and destroyed if I do not join an alliance. Further, players cry and whine about being attacked during events such as with Shady Lady, etc., and send nasty notes and proceed to sabotage and war against players until their entire game is on fire and then some, just for one little attack which is part of the game. Every single alliance says they do not tolerate OP (outpost?) attacks or thefts and they do not tolerate RV attacks (RV = what????) and will destroy players who play the game correctly even if it is ruins they are taking. They say it is a matter of honor.. but their idea of honor is to devour and destroy a player for simply playing the Shady Lady event or other events or for simply trying to improve their title which requires glory points or improve their honor points, all of which is harmlessly done by harmlessly attacking a castle once in a blue moon while harmlessly moving on to a different castle for another harmless attack etc. I have been harmlessly attaacked by players who were obviously doing the same thing I am doing.... playing their game trying to advance it. But the number of threatening letters I am getting are increasing and I do not understand why so many people are so childishly emotional about someone simply playing the game. A board game I left as a child many many many many many years ago was called Risk. I never cried when my nations were captured. I simply worked harder to learn better strategies to capture them back and capture others. However, I never deliberately set out to destroy a player in particular, especially if it didn't fit in with my overall plan for h ow to win the game. I didn't seek revenge when someone took my countries, I sought recovery which may or may not have come from recapturing those same nations. Why all the emotions? Why all the threats telling me I'd better stop playing the game and join an alliance instead which would have me doing nothing but giving away the stuff I work for and playing wars against other alliances instead of just playing my own game?

Since posting this things haven't changed, except for worse. I do not join an alliance because 99% of the ones I've communicated with are crying whining babies who get totally insane if you attack them for a Shady Lady Event, even though you are not sabotaging or burning them down or sending plagues, but simply doing the attack run for the Shady Lady prize of glory points, honor points, nobility points and 100 rubies.
Then, they get their alliance buddies to destroy you and then destroy you again, and then destroy you some more in the name of "honor" because you played the game. But they only do this with players who are not in an alliance, and when THEY in turn are playing the game events, they pick players who are not in an alliance to avoid ticking off an alliance, ain't that the pot calling the kettle black. So I suppose the RIGHT and HONORABLE way to play this game is to NEVER play the Shady Lady Events unless you belong to alliance big enough to scare away any revenge, and that revenge should always be thousands of times more than the original deed, just because no one should DARE play the game without an alliance to make sure the person they are attacking is too scared to try to destroy you.
Well, keep tryin' but I will never become one of you. No alliance for me.

Most of your points are really invalid and pointless. There's literally nothing you can lose by joining an alliance, and there's so much to be gained by following the rules of that alliance. You don't even know what RV stands for which tells me you must be new, so I can understand how this all may feel weird.
Diplomacy is a tricky thing to deal with. Most alliances have rules to govern themselves and set codes to follow in order to keep the peace and help each other grow their levels, outposts, castles, etc.
You also have to realize that a lot of people spend real life money on this game to buy rubies and troops, and to attack/destroy progress they've made on some things can cause quite a stir. A lot of people also like to store their attack troops in their outposts, and attacking someone's outpost for easy glory is a very dishonorable act and you deserve every message you get regarding that issue. Attacks on main castles are almost always permitted, unless your alliance, which gives you many perks the higher their level/funds are, is auto war or doesn't permit you to attack certain things.
This is a war strategy game. Not just another war game you can hop on and just attack people. A lot of other things go into play. If you want glory, wait for the Foreign Invasion event, that's what it is for. If you need coins or rubies, attack robber baron castles and other kingdom NPCs. If you want coins, wait for the nomad events.
Lastly, join an alliance. Don't try to pretend like you're mister tough guy and too good for an alliance. You aren't, nobody is. Alliances provide support, resources, protection, perks and bonuses, and a sense of being a part of something bigger than yourself. There are a lot of crappy alliances out there, so just ask around and try to find a decent looking Alliance that will take you under their wing.

one of the things about GGE that is different from many other games is Fairplay rules. players make up their own rules, and then they enforce it by beating down a few people who dont obey them, just to set an example. then most other people go along with it. fairplay being an ironic name, because nothing about them is to fair, its mostly to strong people not wanting to play the game correctly so they make up their own rules to suit themselves. here is some info you may find useful into understanding these people
-OPs are outposts, you got that right. most strong alliances on USA1 (your server) allow OP attacks. however, at your current level, thats a bad idea because you will lose badly. many lower level alliances dont want you to attack their outposts, because that means they can keep more offense troops, and not worry about defending anything but their main castle. this works really well... until you enter a war, and have no defense or defense tools, and get destroyed by an alliance that was smart enough to own defense troops
-RVs stand for Resource Villages. in the ice, sand, and fire kingdoms, that you unlock at level 25 (ice), 40 (sands), and 50(fire), you do not have outposts like in the great empire (green). instead, you have RVs, or resource villages. these RVs can not be entered, they can not be built in, they can simply be occupied. as long as you have at least 1 troop in an RV, you own it. each RV boosts the production of wood, stone, or food by X%. there is a limit to the number of RVs you own, but it tends to be very high, thus meaning their are not enough RVs for everyone, creating competition for them. however, people did not want to have to defend the RVs from lots of people trying to get RVs as well, so they made a rule saying do not attack RVs or it means war.
-shady lady. many people do have a problem with it, many do not. again, its mostly smaller alliances that have trouble with it. one way to do shady is to message the person, and if they are online, do an arranged hit. they move all their troops out of their castle, and you send the minimum number of men needed to attack them. you do very little damage, you receive points for the event, and no one loses to much of anything. if they are not online, then you can just hit them, and then send a PM (private message, or basically a regular message) saying sorry for hitting you, but you were my shady target
my best advice for you is to jump around from alliance to alliance till you find one you like. if i may suggest, look at free kingdoms. ask to join one of their sub alliances. they are a fair and good group for the most part, and are part of a strong alliance group

This is why I won't join an alliance. People like you who act like Mister Tough Guy (I am a girl by the way) and try to FORCE us to join alliances. You speak out of both sides of your mouths. While saying we shouldn't play the game by attacking anyone during events like the Shady Lady Events which require attacks and allow us to pay rubies to skip attacks on players we may have already attacked, you yourselves attack players and purposefully choose those not in an alliance to avoid ticking off an alliance. You complain and whine and cry when someone attacks you randomly just o play an event with no hostility at all...... but return hatred anger and extreme hostility as an "honorable" revenge. Get over yourselves.Zeayo (US1) said:

Asa general reply.... too many people play these games far too seriously. I used to play Mafia Wars a few years ago. I didn't quit because it was geared too much toward paying money. I didn't quit because it became too repetitive with the game events. I quit because the clans (later called "families") became far too serious, enacting a barrage of "revenge" attacks if they were attacked from a random fight list more than once even though everyone knew Zynga designed the fight lists to repeat previous targets. These clan members were also twisted about the concept of using the hit list. What was once a strategic tool in use against an opponent, especially those stronger than you who made repeat attacks, became "UNFAIR" and "DISHONORABLE." No thanks.

I appreciate your straightforward post and information. As for this last part in quote, I simply don't wish to play a game which has players which force us into joining alliances (or clans, or families, depending on the game). It isn't and shouldn't be the only way to play the game, it is the players who make it mandatory as an "join us or we'll break you" kind of motivation and this I will not do. Too many good games to choose from so I've decided to spend money elsewhere. It was fun for a brief time, thanks again.furture (US1) said:my best advice for you is to jump around from alliance to alliance till you find one you like. if i may suggest, look at free kingdoms. ask to join one of their sub alliances. they are a fair and good group for the most part, and are part of a strong alliance group

If I am attacked once, I attack them back once. If an outpost is attacked then my alliance will have a talk with the other alliance and perhaps go to war. I do shady hits as much as I can unless our alliance is allied with the player I am supposed to attack or the player is too strong. I seriously don't know what you are complaining about. There are rules to this game made by players that the majority of them believe. If you don't follow them there will probably be consequences for you. Just be smart with what you are doing and try not to do any attacks on outposts, resource villages, or multiple attacks in secession against the same person unless they are doing multiple attacks against you.

thanks. The problem has been some players who take extreme measures and offense to being attacked during things like the Shady Lady events, Some players started sending angry messages and attacking over and over again as revenge along with their alliances, and sub alliances, telling me that I am not supposed to ever attack anyone for any game event unless I want to be destroyed. That if I attack one of their members, I attack the entire alliance, and for any attack against any of their mains/outposts/RVs I can expect many times more attacks in revenge.... for playing Shady Lady which requires hitting random targets chosen for us. I even paid rubies a couple of times to avoid the same name in the same event, but one fellow still took offense when his name came up for the next event.ccknoeppel (US1) said:If I am attacked once, I attack them back once. I could have kept playing... I mean.. it's really just a matter of putting out fires which isn't hard to do and resources are quickly regained (shrug) but it just isn't fun if people are complaining about harmless attacks for those game events. And everyone still keeps saying I'd better join an alliance "or else I can expect to be destroyed." Why? Why would an alliance destroy one player for not being in an alliance? Must have something to do with all that "honor" stuff they keep saying I lack. Anyway, I'm just hanging around long enough to finish tearing down my buildings.
I appreciate your perspective.

i get what your saying shellrenee. GGE is actually not being played as GGE was made. players have whole lists of dos or do nots, while the actual game is made so players are ABLE to do things on said lists. i believe for the most part its an issue of convenience, players dont want to deal with protecting everything and deal with the hassle the game is if you play it the correct way. if you made a strong alliance on a brand new server, and enforced GGE rules instead of regular, players would probably behave a lot differently then they do now

I see what you mean. Players are so angry when you attack them. It makes me mad when I see a player who whines because you're playing the game. But mostly when I attack someone, they take it well. It's just a game.

Wow, nail on the head. Thanks for the input. Players call "unfair" or "dishonrable" at their convenience. For instance, in Mafia Wars (Zynga game) it became strategic to build up your health to levels no one could bring down alone as you could refill your health before anyone could finish killing you. And when attacking these players your own health is brought down and a timer before it can be refilled again. My strategy was to put them on the hit list to get those who were working hit lists to gnaw on their health at the same time so I could kill them. That created a huge mess with everyone complaining foul and reporting me to the clan boss, for "dishonorable" behavior So, they were allowed to use the strategy of high health but no one was allowed to use a strategy against it other than high health themselves. It is hard to find a game that can just be fun with no worries. Resources here are so easy to refill and so are military so I might come back, I've saved 150 Imperial Knights and Imperial Marksmen in my hospital and a few tools in case I change my mind.furture (US1) said:i get what your saying shellrenee. Threaten? Threats would be less you have to worry when you are neutral. If you are neutral you are free meal to everyone, and your OP's and RV's are free to take...better join GOOD alliance with family, and ASAP

In general, many players can be overly salty about the game, back before equipment was in the game, these weren't as big of issues, since players didn't have to worry about a location with a crappy cast getting wrecked by a strong commander, other than that though most alliances simply do it out of convenience. Idc all that much tbh, its just a game.Shellrenee (US1) said:Since starting this game I have received many alliance invitations. Most are friendly. Shellrenee, the name of this game is Goodgame Empire. A major component of this game (other than war) is implied by its name, empire building. It may not be what you want, and that is fine. You are certainly welcome to play by your lonesome, but that means you are missing out on maybe 3/4 of what the game has to offer.
Again, it is your choice. But may I suggest you play a little while longer until you at least learn some of the game fundamentals (such as what rvs are, etc.) before posting rants about alliances like the above?
This game is not for everybody. Just like the paintball version of capture the flag is not for people who don't like getting shot at (i.e. stick with regular capture the flag). So rather than get defensive and lash back at someone like Zeayo who was only being blunt and not attacking you, you could instead learn the game more (what are those pesky rv things anyway?) or quietly choose another game more suited to your playstyle.
The answer about alliances is out there. You're just shunning the opportunity. Your choice

They are attacking you for not being in an alliance because just you cannot hurt them back. When people say join an alliance because it's strength in numbers it's not to force you into an alliance. Joining is for your own benefit. You won't be ganged up on because the alliance you are in will support you and fight back for you. When you are alone how much damage can you do. It's a safe hit because it won't result in war.Shellrenee (US1) said:thanks.
