I am looking to join (level 10 on day 5 of game,) a mutual protection alliance.

There does not seem to be many to choose from above a hand-full of members...

how does one get an invite around here ?

Well, if you are a low level, your best bet at getting an invite to a large alliance is gaining honor. Once you get 500 or 600 honor, then alliances will be sure to invite you. I know as an alliance leader, I only invite members with at least 500 honor under most circumstances.

Ya, that's what big alliances look for, honor. They don't want it low because they will go down in the rankings.
