An old player named Haskell brilliantly orchestrated a plot to plant alts in leadership, and to boot the entire alliance out. In doing so, when I logged in I refused to defend or send out attacks at a bunch of alts. Its a very complicated story, and I plan on rebooting the alliance to have more fun in the near future.
