Topic: [370360] Sticky Situation: How to Bade a Member Goodbye

[-370360] dliu3 (US1) [US1] :: Jan. 5, 2020, 2:07 a.m.
A friend is the leader of an alliance and they asked me for advice regarding a situation they're in: they recently took in a member who showed good potential, but the member wasn't really a good fit, was being a bit annoying, etc. Now they want a non-aggressive, dignified way of giving the member the boot. What is the best way to approach this? I would feel really bad if I had to tell someone "sorry but you didn't fit right with our alliance" and boot them.

Many ways to do it.  Depends on your style.

- Just boot them and ignore.
- Give them the old "It isn't working out - but we can still be friends" speech.
- Find them another Alliance to join that is more in line with their style.

In the end, the Leader needs to lead or they shouldn't have the Crown...…...

This is a common problem in weak alliances.
In strong alliances such as Boo Masters, we just tell them they are no good and kick them out.
Our prophet Whitetiger wrote: "As iron sharpeneth iron, so doth a Boo sharpeneth a Boo."
Translated into the American language, it means: "Get the good and kick out the rest."

Does the "kick out the rest" part include stealing their RVs and OPs?

There is a difference between "stealing" and "seizing" a property in acordance with accempted server rules.

Seeing you post with the 2020 time stamp has made me feel some kind of way.  Something about you commenting on a "sticky situation" without my involvement feels strange regardless of how long it's been.  Count me in on assisting this non-sexually charged situation that is moist and adhesive.

Just be honest.

Simple.

If someone decides to get butthurt after you're honest with them and explain that they don't fit into the alliance, and why, then thats their problem.

I think that should go both ways though. Many times decisions arn't respected and alliances are warred for offering players a chance to have a different alliance. Sometimes they are forced, being told they can never go to certain alliances and for no other reason other than just trying to keep their own member base intact.

The "leaders" that try to force people to stay do not get anywhere - and their alliances perform poorly.

Do it like the tv show "The Apprentice" as in "You're Fired!"
