if you have items stored do you still get the benefit of them or do they have to be in the castle area thank you:)

They have to be in the castle otherwise someone could just spend weeks building and storing decorations to have an incredibly high PO.

Agreed, if you have decorations, storing those decorations will not give you the benefits of them, they must be in play.
