How are shadow mercearies best used? Why would I want them? I read they are to expensive to be expendable.

They are an ok thing. You have to pay rubies to get the mercenaries.
The bad side to them is that they have the same attributes as the normal regular troops has. Example a shadow maceman has the same fighting power, loot, and travel speed as a regular maceman. The good news thought is that when you attack someone with the shadow mercenaries, the person your attacking won't know who was the attacker win or lost. Another good part of them is that they don't use your food consumption.
Now on my opinion toward them, they should be used more in war situations or at someone you hate. Also don't get a big stack of them, if your not good at collecting rubies.

They are good for hitting RBC's too, you can send out lots of attacks at once & don't have to use your commanders.
