I am wondering, is it best to leave the castle alone in your area, in your site on the map and go out 30 miles or more to attack? I am at level 24, hard to find levels to attack for honor or it has been, now finding them about 30 miles or more away. Still they can come right back at me.
So, what is the BEST strategy for attacking?
also, if you add up the points of their defense troops and figure out how to win by that, is that the best stragtegy? I add up the soldiers points and try to get higher..and then add the attack tools. and of course my Commander has the best equipment. Still I lose way too many soldiers. and the loot does not cover the expense to make them.

someone else will have to answer the second part to your question, I lost 1200 troops the other day and only killed 150 so you don't wanna take attack advice from me. As to the first part, its generally better to make friends with those close to you and attack farther away, for me this means I normally attack at least 150 units away or more. I don't know what kind of troops and things you have at level 24 so I don't know how fast you move, I would say attack as far away as you can while keeping travel time to 2-4 hours, anything more and they will get support.
just my two cents, others know a lot more than me

1.) Of all depends on how active you are, how close your alliance is, and if you get support to your castles quickly. If you are fairly, have a good alliance support speed bonus, and have one or two fellow members close to you, or have a large number of defenders, I would say go ahead.
If, on the other hand, you are not very active, and can't get support fast, I would keep your targets a safe distance away, so of they counter attack, you can have time to gather troops and such.
2.) I think I'll let someone else answer this, I'm not the best attacker, so I don't want to give you bad advice.

range moat wall commander
2 waves of range with 10 wall tool 10 mantle
2 waves of range with 40 banners
the cheap version of that

if your target is strong, you need 3 waves of tools
if your target have nomad tools, don't try your luck

I attacked 30 miles away and it took 2 hours one way! I have my best commander with travel speeds, a stable. It takes a hour to go 12 miles.

Remember that resource tools reduce travel time considerably, if you don't use them, your armies will speed up.

I personally try to hit people that are more than 30 minutes travel away (that way I get the longest warning when they attack back - I don't have a watchtower, so the best I can do is 30 min warning). If your OK with not having 30 minutes of warning, then attack those closer to you.
Remember, the farther away, the more it costs to travel there.
