I am currently only a level 26 but have previously had an account at a much higher level which i had removed to startover. In starting over I've found myself at a distinct advantage to most new starters because of previously gained knowledge
There are plenty of startup/beginner guides to choose from bur this is my personal lessons learned and shared post which i hope will help atleast someone, in someway
I am always willing to learn, so if you have tips/advice, feel free to message me, but bare in mind this thread is designed for me to share personal lessons and my personal take on the game, so please don't spam it up with things you think i've forgotten or you approach differently
I will be posting short guides/tips as and when i write them up but if you're new to Empire, please feel free to ask for specific answers and i will be happy to offer my personal answers. Also if you have a request for a specific guide/post i would be happy to take requests. I am active daily on Empire and the forums so will always reply ASAP
Please note; This is not me saying my way is the best way, just that it has worked best for me. Also if you have a similar thread, we are not in competition: a wise pupil would learn from as many sources as possible

Godcast #1
Step by Step guide to attacking RBCs (Robber Baron Castles) with minimal losses
1. ALWAYS espionage 100%, send as many scouts as it takes to keep the risk below 10%
2. When first looking at the report, you need to see if there are soldiers in the courtyard; IF there's a load in the courtyard you will need to attack all 3 flanks for the 30% bonus, if there's none in the courtyard, you should only attack 2 flanks - this is because attacking them on the wall means you are fighting against defense + tools + wall bonus so fighting one of those flanks in the courtyard will take away that wall bonus. BUT if you only attack one flank you will go to the courtyard with a 30% reduction in strength against the rest of the defense. So always 3 flanks if there's soldiers in the courtyard, 2 flanks if there's not.
N.B when i say 'units in the courtyard' i don't mean 1 or 2. You have to judge whether it's worth fighting a 3rd flank for that 30% bonus
3. Break the attack into flanks. When choosing to attack only 2 flanks, you should look for the 2 with the least soldiers and the least tools.
Remember this; When you Defend, you should meet a unit with the same type, but when you attack you should hit with opposite. If you are being attacked with ranged, defend with ranged, but if you are attacking a ranged defense, hit with melee.
If you're lucky the flanks will be all one type and you can just attack the flank with the opposite, easy. If the flank is mixed you should work on a percentage, I.E if there's 5 bowmen and 5 spears, that's a 50% ranged, 50% melee defense so should attack with half and half down that flank
Clicking on a unit in the report will give you it's exact statistics, including it's defense against melee and defense against ranged, so if in doubt, click and have a look
4. Send everything. If you have 200 units and are attacking 80, send all 200. you should ALWAYS be using the wave system; beneath the commander option in the attack page there is another scroll option which says 1/3. If you're only attacking 2 flanks, for example, fill both them flanks with the correct units, then go to wave 2/3 and repeat, and again on 3/3. Your units will pack more of a punch when all sent together and you will lose a lot less. You should be getting more coins per attack than you're losing in replacing units.
6. Everybody sets up their commanders differently, but most of you will have a mostly melee or mostly ranged commander so when you're attacking an RBC are you attacking mostly ranged or melee? Choose a commander that has a bigger bonus for the opposite. It doesn't hurt if the commander also has 'reduces enemy wall protection', 'reduces enemy gate protection', 'increases resources looted' and 'chance of finding better equipment' too For the more advanced player you may have commanders especially for farming
I, personally, am attacking RBCs constantly while i am online. I use a system where i have chosen to only dress my commanders/castellans in Legendary and reward (Orange and Red) Equipment. By constantly hitting RBCs you will start to fill up with ordinary/rare and epic (Grey,Green and Purple) items which you can pay to forge in your smithy. Everytime i get 6 ordinaries i forge a rare, 6 rares into epics and 6 epics into legendaries, respectively. Some might say this is too expensive but by constantly hitting and growing your local RBCs it is VERY easily possible to gain 30-40k+ in coins in a day (not including tax and rewards) and is very benefitial in building top quality commanders and castellans, which more than anything else will win you battles and lose you less units when attacking RBCs in future
If anything here is unclear, please feel free to ask
If you disagree or do anything, personally, different, please feel free to practise the 5th amendment. I'd appreciate it if this didn't turn into a mass debate on how everybody plays individually, inevitably, making it confusing for those looking to learn

I keep a record of the attack strength (ranged and melee attack points) on each wall. When i find an attack i am happy with i just repeat it every time i attack that level of barron.
