that indicates how far away from your main castle their main castle is.

This is actually a pretty common question, and one which is hard to search the forum for since it stems from a misinterpretation of the words being used.jollyjack82 wrote: »this is a wierd thread

Since it is hard to search forums for this and its an easy answer.... easiest to just answer

Empire is laid out on a grid. Distance is measured in clicks, miles, kilometers, whatever you want.
Each location on the grid is a defined by two coordinates on the grid such as 500:750
• The 1st coordinate is measured & increases from left to right (East to West)
• The 2nd coordinate is measured & increases from top to bottom (North to South)
Calculating distance is basic geometry.
When the first coordinate of two locations is identical, i.e. 500:750 & 500:725, then:
• Location 500:725 would be 25 clicks North of location 500:750 (750-725 = -25)
• Location 500:750 would be 25 clicks South of location 500:725 (725-750 = 25)
When the 2nd coordinate of the two locations is identical, i.e. 500:750 & 531:750, then:
• Location 531:750 would be 31 clicks West of location 500:750 (500-531 = 31)
• Location 500:750 would be 31 clicks East of Location 531:750 (531-530 = -31)
In all other instances follow these steps:
1st:2nd
EXAMPLE: To Find the Distance from : 500:695
to : 475:700
1. Square the difference of 1st coordinate of each location 500 - 475 = 25 X 25 = 625
2. Square the difference of the 2nd coordinate of each location 695 - 700 = -5 X -5 = 25
3. Add the two squared values together 625 + 25 = 650
4. Find the square root of the sum of the two squared values SQRT of 650 = 25.5
Remember basic math:
• a negative number times a negative number yields a positive number.
• a positive number times a positive number also equals a positive number.
This calculation can be useful when planning to move your castle. You can thank Pythagoras for the solution.

actually, this calculation is based on the fact that inDanpire (US1) said:Empire is laid out on a grid. Distance is measured in clicks, miles, kilometers, whatever you want.

BUT, actually, while moving a castle, you just need a 'decent' location with-
as many 8 food OPs
Friends nearby ( rmanent friends)
etc.
PLUS, this works on only 1% of the coordinates so just forget Pythagoras.
