what do i need to do to defend against npc attack of over 1000 troops. from past attacks i would need over 2000 defense to even have a chance. if im not online to open gates then i lose all i have. we are all new players of few mths and dont have the knowledge.  

i also find this forum hard to figure out as to where to post my questions

Nobody gets NPC attack of over 1000 troops that is only with khan revenge. And then you activate the attack by yourself

Well lets think for a second... What event now is running that sends 1k troops at you? Maybe... Foreign Lords? Yeah, just takes some context clues.

Usually what I do is I set up for one flank and then put up my best courtyard casty. The casty from Samurai is pretty helpful when making high courtyard castys. 

Don't usually get many losses with FL's using samurai casty.

Most foreign attacks (from my experience) are poorly tooled. If you see no mantlets in the attack you can probably set up 35-65-0 or 27-46-27 with all range and arrow slits or all melee with strong wall tools.

If the attack has lots of mantlets and siege towers, use SteelSlayer's suggestion. Or if you're offline.

Stock defensive setup is suicide.  Follow Steelslayers advice.  Upgrade your cast as much as you can.  The sam cast is pretty decent.  The nomad cast set while not as good is much easier to get and is at least serviceable at your level.

If you lose more than 200 troops defending an FL, you're doing something wrong.

Try to understand how the battle mechanics works in this game. Use NPC to experiment and figuring it out. Once you figure it out, you'll now what to do.

just attack the Foreign castle hitting you. no need to defend.

I prefer to let them hit me rather than hit them first before they land. You can make a lot of glory points now for defending. It used to be at one time you would not make much glory for defending, but all of that has changed and now you can make a lot more glory points from defending from both pvp along with Foreigners and Bloodcrows. If a Foreigner or Bloodcrow for example were to send about 1k at you and the castle it is sending from has smaller numbers you could actually make a lot more glory points from defending than from attacking. Also easy to win against Foreigners and Bloodcrows as well when defending against. You could easily win a defense just by using normal defensive tools that may not necessarily require using ruby tools for defense and especially if you have a complete cast for high level players from the monthly events. (Monthly event cast when completed is actually even better than a complete Samurai Cast and high level for the best equipment from monthly events is now level 50+ instead of level 70.)

Nomad attacks though may require using your best cast in addition to using your best tools.

100% closecombat all limes 1 flank firepit in moat ,stops anything comming at you if you have it all upgraded propper and many troops on wall like 507

If you're getting attacked by all ranged e.g deathlies and bowman, is it ok to use melee or should you use 100% ranged with arrow slits?

All ranged with ranged tools (including arrow slits) would be my recommendation.

Depends on how many mantlets they got coming with the ranged troops.
