Topic: [364739] A Comprehensive(ish) Guide to Relic Equipment, as Far as I Can Tell by JYT

Since the devs didn't do this at all, and I've gotten tired of people not wanting to think hard enough to draw conclusions on their own (instead of being spoonfed them), here you go. Be warned, my limited sample size of equipment makes some of these claims a little shaky, but I'm 87.62% confident that what you are about to read is correct.

Every value you see with a ? next to it is only my estimate, since I only have one or maybe 2 pieces to go off of for that number. Take these with a large pinch of salt.

From my research:
Line 1 bonuses in weapons will always be what I'm going to call a "bonus" attribute--a nice, relatively small bonus to differentiate piece from piece. Typically this is a bonus to loot, or wall/gate/moat reduction, or travel speed in commanders, but can also be a bonus to m/r combat strength (between 10-25% depending on eq type, but always in that range(?)), about 4 travel speed, or about 10-12 w/g/m, or on the order of ~25?%, depending on eq type.
Line 2 is a bonus for range, and 3 will be for melee. In all cases, the boost is about the same--80-odd melee and ranged combat strength bonus.

In commander helmets, they seem to always have ~75 speed and ~115 wall, +/- some amount, with a "bonus attribute"
In castellan helmets, there seems to always be an ~115 wall bonus and between 0 and 2 m/r bonuses (between 15 and 25%), with the other line(s) being (a) "bonus(es)"

In all chestplates, one finds a "bonus" in line one and ~75 moat line 2 and ~115 gate line 3.

In all artifacts, one can reasonably expect to find a looting bonus of about 15% in line 3, with lines 1 and 2 being "bonuses."

Commander heroes target PvP or specific events, providing m/r bonuses (10-20?%), fortification reduction(~30?%), late detection (~80%), Courtyard (varies by target event), or flank (varies by target). Additionally, commander heroes will have 2 of the following 3: Increased mantlet travel speed (60-110?%), increased [troop type] combat strength, or increased [troop type] looting bonus.
Castellan heroes are a bit of a headache but are generally similar to commander heroes, targeting main castle/op combat strength bonus, cy bonus, early detect (80-85 ish%), and a "bonus" attribute. Additionally, castellan heroes will have 2 of the following 8 bonuses: increased hospital space, increased research/construction time, increased market barrow space, increased res/kres production, increased PO, or increased recruitment time.

Gems are such a mess that I'm not going to even bother with them, the attributes are all over the place. Basically just look for a gem having all 3 attributes for the target you wish, be that an event or PvP. Do note that, last I checked, the "NPC Only CY bonus" on cast gems, around 30-40% bonus, DO apply to PvP. I had a br proving this, but I've since lost it. If you don't believe me, stick them on and have a neighbor send a 32 troop hit at you. Observe br. Realize it's a display glitch. The end.

Observe now the list of all the attribute caps one can reach with relic stuff vs non-relic stuff. You should probably click on it and zoom in to get a closer look, sourced from this old announcement thread. It covers most of the stuff I wrote about, but not very clearly. This thread simply fills in the gaps.

TL;DR Preface: italicized attributes are the "main" attributes of that eq type, which go the majority of the way to the attribute cap. "Something small" is the "bonus" of above, basically filling in the rest of the way to the attribute cap.

TL;DR:
Com helmets have wall, speed, and something small.
Cast helmets have wall, and either m/r or fortification (0 or 1 or 2 of one and 2 or 1 or 0 of the other, respectively).

Chestplates always have gatemoat, and something small.

Weapons always have ranged, melee, and something small.

Artifacts have loot (but doesn't take a huge way to the cap), and something small x2. *Often a second loot bonus will appear, thus taking it most of the way to the cap, but this seems to happen as often as it doesn't, or thereabouts. Seems a silly caveat to me, but oh well.

Heroes are a giant PITA, so for coms, just look for one that goes for the event currently running is my advice.
For casts, look for one with early detect and combat bonus for the type of castle you're equipping it to. All else isn't really significant.

Gems are a worse PITA but hey the NPC cy bonus applies to PvP as well. Last I checked it was a display error. Look for something with the proper bonuses for the set you're trying to make.

Now for stars: 3 stars > 2 stars > 1 star, duh. Stars can only be compared between equipment pieces of the same type, and for attributes of the same type--"main attribute" vs "main attribute" ok, "main attribute" vs "something small" not ok. Got it? Good.

Note: this will clear up a lot of the confusion about "why this tiny 4.7% speed bonus 3 stars but the 73.8% is 2 stars wut. is less stars better????" No, you're not using the stars correctly.

Some notes to the reader:
If anyone finds pieces that don't fit the mold I have just written out, post it down below! I'm usually very upset to be wrong, but in this case I'd be more than glad. The more we know, the better imo.

If you disagree with what I've written, comment that too! I'd love to hear any feedback at all, because honestly it seems that nobody knows what's going on with this stuff haha. More ideas --> more thinking --> stronger conclusions.

If you've read all the way down to here, thank you for sticking with it, even though this is significantly shorter than many other posts.

I'm probably forgetting something, so yell at me down below for doing so (if there is actually something I missed).
