Attack for influence early, orient your econs for defense support, select your most capable defender as alliance leader, and—most importantly—rapidly upgrade your altar in one contemporaneous episode when you think your opponents are either least expecting it or unable to successfully launch an offensive for influence on your capital, or both.
The only meaningful ground for unfairness is the ability of rubes to buy advanced castle setups at the outset of the event when attacking is of the utmost priority. Even so, it's just one comparative advantage; collective skill and strategic decision-making are probably determinative of success.

Spy the lie then. What you complained of—opponents plundering influence stored in your Alliance Capital—goes to the very essence of the Beyond the Horizon event, as clearly spelled out in the Guide. Ethos and real-world application/testing aren't prereqs for formulating strategy.

@Ewoking (US1)
Your Ewoking account had no alliance on the US server when I checked it. I then tried to find the account in the horizon and surprise, surprise it couldn't be found. As such anything said by you on this account has no merit.

The top alliance does have a capital, they have just done a couple of things to try and hide it.
The leader has called his op capital to make it look like his op is a capital
And the player that holds the capital has called it the same name as he calls his ops to make it look like an op.
But no its not a game glitch.
It doesnt really help that the artwork / colouring of the ops are very similar to capitals so its easier to try and hide.
