Can somebody please tell me how to move up in the ranks of an alliance? ?(

Or general if you are only a member. The leader can promote from member to leader ranks a general can move from member to sergant rank. Hope this helped. ^^

in my past i always just donated lots of resources when possible and coins donated rubies send support when people ask for it and be friendly to other alliance members

Cruel to the leader though, I always feel guilty having to turn down someone asking for promotion.
My advice is just work hard, contribute and don't forward evrything to your leader, if you are in an alliance with more than 10 members they will have a lot to deal with, so only forward reports where someone has attacked you and won, or where you have won a battle that has made a lot of glory for the alliance. Try to do something big for the alliance such as convincing an enemy alliance to capitulate to catch your leaders eye.
While I have never been anything other than a leader, I am telling you what I look at when I am deciding who to promote.

In my old alliance, generals are very rare but all others are Sergent. Why? because when you are Sergent, you can send mass mail which is very beneficial. They can update about new good outpost or free resource village to everyone.
