If you didn't know, there is a way to know if a player is active, other than the sword brother process. Visit a player's castle, and look around for scafolding around any building, For example if someone is upgrading a dweling you can see it by looking at his dwelling and see the scafolding around it. This is also useful to know if a player has two or three construction slots.
That way you can look for active players easier, and you can identify them if they are ruby buyers or not, if they didn't have any ruby buildings or ruby deco.

Yet again, I'm being forced to say "ruby buyer" means nothing. People like me who have never bought a ruby can afford 2/3 construction slots.
However, I do agree that it is good as a general rule of thumb. So is the main point - while constructing a building means that the player has logged on recently, not constructing a building could be due to a lack of resources, being asleep or many other reasons.

Ok first about the "ruby buyer" thing, i would say that players who don't buy rubies, would save their rubies for someting better than extra slots, however ruby buyers just spend rubies on even the worthless thing because they know they can get more any time they want. Anyways, Even if someone is asleep he might be upgrading a high level building which means it will take a long time to finish upgrading, and more time for you to notce it.

I once bought one extra construction slot. I wanted to see exactly how useful it was, and although the answer was "not very", I still would have appeared to be a "ruby buyer" during that week. While it might have been stupid for me to use my rubies for this, people still do stupid things with their rubies, so you can't assume. My point was that it while often work, don't judge purely based on that.
Again, you are stereotyping people who buy rubies as people who literally spend thousands of dollars (or pounds or some other currency) on millions of rubies. The majority of players who have bought rubies have not spent very much on rubies. You are saying that they have so many rubies that they can afford to waste them. Let me tell you this, I would estimate that at the most, 0.1% of players (1 in 1,000 players) who have bought rubies have bought enough to fill 7 castles with level 4 bakeries, full town houses, level 2 stables, watchtowers and full jousting lists.
The "long time upgrading" thing doesn't work with low levels. While I might have had buildings going in my main castle practically non-stop for the last week (with most of the buildings taking at least 15 hours, most of them more), not everything does take so long and apart from the estate, even level 30 players probably won't have buildings going non-stop through the night. Again, my point was that it may be a good estimate, but it's not a perfect way to work out whether a player is active (although the perfect way IMO would involve several messages that the player may find annoying).

Ok. I understand what you said about it not being a perfect way, but actually, i also use this method to know if my enemy is active which makes attacking him easier. And even though it's only an estimate, repeating this every day makes your results more certain.
And about the rubies, i'm done arguing because i'm tired and frustrated because of that subject.

I agree, they could buy rubies, every once in a while (Me) or could work for them the old fashioned way.

There's a much easier way to see if someone is online or not. As most people use the 10 minute tax collection option when they're online all you need to do is look at their listing in the weekly rankings under coins collected. If it goes up every 10minutes or so (it updates fairly regularly) then they're online. If it doesn't update then they're probably offline. Obviously some people use longer periods of collection even when they're online but I think most use the 10 minute option.

I think this is a great idea. Anyone clever enough to be a threat/worth attacking will use the 10 minute taxes while they are online, unless they are leaving the game in the next 10 minutes.
However, I thought the OP was talking about how to tell if someone was active. If you want to tell if someone is active, check the weekly rankings and see if they've got a score higher than 0 on taxes, loot or anything else. Just try to avoid checking at 3 a.m. on Monday.

What exactly is wrong with checking at 3 a.m. on Monday?

Well, on Monday at midnight, the weekly rankings reset. I don't collect taxes during the first 3 hours of the week (even using GMT+2), and I doubt many others do either. Of course, it does depend which time zone you are in.
You can check on Monday night (again, using the time GMT+2), but base the taxes not on the number, but on the position - 100,000 coins is very good on Monday but not as good on Sunday. Being in the top 200 means the same thing almost throughout the week.
