You know how you don't want the person you're attacking to be online? Well there is a way to find out if the person is on or off. Look in their posts and see if the green light on the left is on or off. If it is on, they are online and you should retreat. If they aren't attack them!!
This is probably useful to targets that are really close.

Start a fire at your target, then see when it gets put out. It takes time, and you have to watch, but it's the only way I've found in this game to know when someone comes online.

Or send someone to infiltrate their alliance,which is difficult but well worth it.

Send you're real spies out, to their real homes, see if they are really sitting at the computer with Empire on the screen...
or I guess it'd be easier and cheaper if you've got a gift in remote viewing...
Sending a message is pretty simple but it ain't foolproof
And Jade's right...deception deceives, stealth has its surprises, tricks up the sleeve...you'll never know.

This is the way :
First check the swordbrothers if they are high lv and only have 16
Spy on the economics to see if there is any sudden decrease
Sabotage and check to see if the first get less
Then spy on military and if possible attack
Finally,see if they have the alliance.
Usually, you get 90% right when doing this
