How do i get a "castellan" ?????

Ha. Here's one question, at least, that I can answer. Marisuhhh2, you can acquire a new castellan by constructing a building that's called an estate (which is not immediately available to low-level Lords), and again a couple times after that by upgrading the estate.

Estate is unlocked at level 13.

First, your answer to my question #1, part B surprised me. Actually, I thought castellans sometimes lead attacks too--like when they conquer outposts--but if I'm right (?) then that's something you did not explicitly address, regarding combat strength percent gains from castellan equipment. Along these same lines, I have a follow-up question for you or anybody:

If, as Bat88 says, the "strength in defense" of a ranged defender can be increased by combat strength percent gains from castellan equipment, then do mantlets and cast iron mantlets serve to negate these percent gains?

Second, your answer to my question #4 surprised me, if I understood you properly. Any of the tools we are talking about here, if considered individually, doesn't seem to do much. Only when deployed in large quantities does a loot sack, a loot cart, a banner, or a war banner seem worthwhile, at least in my opinion. Therefore I am sad to learn, as you are perhaps saying, that it is mandatory for multiple quantities of a loot sack, or multiple quantites of a loot cart, or multiple quantities of a banner, or multiple quantities of a war banner, to be deployed in separate slots in order for them to functionally add up. I would have felt better if I could have inserted all my loot sacks into a single slot, for example. Unless, of course, I've misunderstood you! In hindsight I do realize that my question #4 was susceptible to being misread; sorry if that happened.

You are right that castellan's can lead attacks. I forgot about that. Castellan bonuses will count for an attacking army when capturing an op, capital, or a castle in Berimond. I am pretty sure the castellan strength bonuses will work during a capture attack and when defending if occupying forces/castellan are under attack. I am not 100 percent sure if the bonuses work for occupying forces but I would be surprised if they didn't work.

Mantlets work by decreasing the effectiveness of ranged defenders. They override equipment bonuses. Even if a player has an 80 percent strength bonus to ranged defenders, only 20 mantlets are needed to reduce ranged defenders defensive power to zero. flaming arrows, bulwarks and arrow slits are the only things that can counter mantlets. 31 cast iron mantlets or 21 shield walls will always reduce ranged defenders D to zero even if defender has arrow slits in all 3 slots.

You can insert all of your loot sacks in one slot but you are limited to the number of tools you can put in that slot in a given wave. For high level players, you are limited to 30 tools/items on flanks and 40 for the middle. You really do need large quantities of loot sacks and banners to make a significant difference since each individual item doesn't amount to much.

Hope they will revise this soon, as it is almost useless to have melee bonus on the commander. If u dont have +90ranged +90 melee bonus on the same commander, you are better off with a full ranged commander with moat/wall/gate reduction and u can almost guarantee yourself a +30% bonus in the keep. I thought equipments will make the game colorful but it made it very grey. Now if you dont have a great castellan your castle is just a slaughterhouse for defender and it takes a long time to build up de ent castellans in all castles so weaker alliances lost their smallest chance to catch up with the big ones

I don't understand why melee bonus on the commander is useless. wouldn't your melee attackers benefit from it, at least for the fight at the keep? and what is a de ent castellan? If somebody could explain please, that would be helpful.

I think this was a good guide, and I hope to see more.

Also, I was wondering about using one longbowman against 50 ranged soldiers. Wouldn't it be more effective to use a two handed sword? They are designed for attacking.

Thank you for this post! I feel the value of the King's Flag has been great for me. I feel it intimidates people who are considering attacking you, since many of them will assume things about you that your experience alone does not warrant. There are other reasons I have been rarely attacked, but I feel the Flag is also one of them. No one local has EVER attacked me.

What is the max amount of decorative percentage you can have? Is it 200%?

[1530092] isgeng [None] :: April 7, 2013, 12:58 a.m.
There is no limit to the percentage as far as i know. The real limit is the number and type of decorations that fit in your castle.

If youre non ruby/limited ruby player should you only build bakeries to your castles or also to outposts..?

Build bakeries in every castle, as long as you are confident that your outpost(s) will not be captured by another player. The bakery is the most useful ruby building in the game, so try and get a lot of them and upgrade them a lot, regardless of how many rubies you buy.

When my troops come back from Berdimond, I'll be using the 20 manlet strategy.
I saw someone write why not use a 2 handed sword because they're stronger. Here's why
2 handed swords are best at killing ranged soldiers. Since with the 20 manlets, you already took care of that. But, there might be some melee defense soldiers. So, you use ranged attackers with 20 manlets- ranged attackers to kill melee defenders and manlets to kill the ranged defenders.

The Thing Is That Making Lots Of Houses Decreases Public Order Therefore Decreasing Military Training Time. The Way To Shorten Military Training Time Is To Make Lots Of Decorative Items, Which Increase Public Order Therefore The Time It Takes To Train Your Units. The Ways To Do This Are Either Building Lots Of Pillorys, Inventorys, Or Signposts. That Increases Public Order More, But Takes More Space. For This Strategy, I Would Recomend Doing It In An Outpost, Because Then You Have Space In Your Main Castle. The Other Strategy Requires Weapon Racks, OutHouses, Cages Or Wells. This Takes Less Space, But Does Not Increase Public Order As Much And Takes More Time. Hope This Helped, Thanks! :D

You're clearly a low level - the best strategy is to either build parks, jousting lists or festival squares.

If anyone reading this is a low level, it's generally best to build decorations that are close to the best quality you have (e.g. cage if that's the one you just unlocked). However, I would not advise building decorations that cost rubies because you will replace them later with one of the above, and then that will be wasted rubies.
